The Elements

Judy Schmidt

Judy moved to Missoula in 1988 after completing her specialty medical training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  A native of Minneapolis board certified in oncology, hematology and internal medicine, Judy shares openly that "for nearly twenty years I've been blessed to live in a mountain paradise and raise my children on open land with deer, elk and eagles as our neighbors."

After three years working in a group setting Judy opened her solo practice in 1991 and "developed a passion for getting to know each and every patient for the unique gift that they are."  Judy adds that she was "truly humbled" by the rapid growth of her practice, knowing that each patient had personally chosen to walk through her door -- many having driven hundreds of miles to do so.

Judy attributes much of her success to Clinical Coordinator Joni Landes, RN, OCN,  who has worked by Judy's side since 1992.  Joni manages a team of six oncology nurses and brought primary nursing to the clinic.

In 2000 Judy and Joni co-founded the Guardian Angels Foundation -- a non-profit organization that helps Montana cancer patients pay out-of-pocket expenses not covered by insurance.  To date, GAF has issued grants exceeding $340,000 with 100% of all donations benefiting cancer patients!
